Seeking Count Play Explore Advisory Committee Members

Count Play Explore (CPE) is seeking applications from individuals interested in serving on the Count Play Explore Advisory Committee (CPEAC). CPEAC will support and advise CPE which is led by the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools (FCSS) Department of Early Care and Education. CPEAC will play a crucial role in guiding the CPE’s expansion and ensuring its alignment with statewide educational priorities. CPEAC members will share information on the priorities and focus of their agencies, organizations, or constituents as related to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). CPEAC members are individuals with expertise and experience in early learning, child development and health, STEAM, and/or family and community engagement.  

CPEAC applications are due by February 26, 2025, 5:00 PM (Pacific).

CPE’s work includes:

  • Improving math, science, and computer science outcomes for California’s children;
  • Building educators’ capacity to ensure sustainable impact;
  • Developing leaders to serve as regional professional learning facilitators, mentors, and coaches;
  • Delivering high-quality professional development through summer institutes, communities of practice, ongoing coaching, and online suites;
  • Providing ongoing educator support through demonstration lessons, coaching, and mentoring;
  • Supporting implementation of research-based ideas and strategies in regional and local contexts;
  • Increasing family awareness and meaningful family engagement;
  • Developing and sharing resources with families and educators which include the web-based application CountPlayExplore.org; I’m Ready videos; STEM-focused literature reviews and activities; research briefs; replicable math and science installations; a web-based inventory of early math research and resources; tools for hosting community math nights; STEM library resources; and publication of a STEM-focused children’s book series in partnership with Charlesbridge (publication in 2026);.
  • Developing resources that foster early STEM in school, home, and community settings for all learners, including dual language learners and students with disabilities;
  • Evaluating the efficacy of CPE through data collection and surveys to inform implementation, course correction, and planning

Organizations and individuals who represent the constituencies described below are encouraged to apply:

  • Administrators (e.g., early learning program, elementary school, school district)
  • California Child Care Resource and Referral Network
  • County Offices of Education
  • Early educator professionals, including PK through grade 3 educators, center-based educators, Family Child Care Home (FCCH) educators, and Family Friends and Neighbors (FFNs)
  • Infants and toddlers programs, for example, Program for Infant and Toddler Care (PITC), California Early Childhood Online (CECO), and California Preschool Instructional Network (CPIN)
  • Libraries (public and school-based) 
  • Medical professionals working with young children and their families (i.e., pediatricians)
  • Parents and caregivers of young children 
  • Philanthropic organizations
  • Professional development providers
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) and child development experts and researchers
  • State agencies (e.g., California Department of Education (CDE), California Department of Social Services (CDSS), State Board of Education (SBE), California Collaborative for Educational Excellence (CCEE), First 5 California (F5CA), and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC)

Application Timeline

Below is the application and decisions timeline

  • January 7, 2025 - Application is open
  • February 26, 2025 - Applications are due by 5:00 PM (Pacific)
  • Early April 2025 - Applicants will be notified if selected for an interview
  • Mid April 2025 - Advisory Committee members will be selected and notified
  • Late April to Early May 2025 - Orientation for selected Advisory Committee members
