Universal PreKindergarten (UPK)
The Office of the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools, Early Care and Education FCSS-ECE) Department provides technical assistance and support for school districts planning and implementing Transitional Kindergarten (TK) or UPK programming.
What is Universal PreKindergarten (UPK)?
Universal PreKindergarten (UPK) is the expansion of the state’s mixed delivery system to meet the early education needs of 3 and 4-year-old children and their families. UPK brings more choices for preschool, including Transitional Kindergarten which will be available to all 4-year-olds by 2025-2026. UPK is an essential part of transforming California’s schools and giving every student in California a great start.
Supports offered by the FCSS-ECE team include:
Knowledgeable staff who can answer questions about UPK, including compliance requirements, programmatic information, etc.;
- Supports for teaching staff, including information about professional development and college coursework, in addition to stipend awards;
- Resources, including professional development options;
- And much more…
Early Educator Teacher Development Grant (EETD)
The Early Educator Teacher Development (EETD) Grant supports staff working directly with children ages 3-5 attending Fresno County schools. The EETD grant provides stipend awards to early educators for Early Childhood Education (ECE) college unit coursework or professional development training that is within the scope of the grant guidelines.
